How do I install the Kable Lite System by TECH Lighting?
This is a general guide designed to help you create a TECH cable lighting system. Before you begin, you will need a rough plan of the lighting required for your project or a list of the pieces your client has requested. If you have any questions that are not answered by this tutorial, please contact us.
When installing and using this system, please adhere to the following basic safety precautions:
- Read all instructions completely before beginning installation
- Turn off the electrical power at the panel before modifying the system in any way
- Do not install this system:
- In a wet or damp location
- With the fixtures located within six inches of combustible materials
- With the rail concealed or extended through a building wall
We recommend you hire a qualified, licensed electrician to install the system.
Product Checklist:
STEP 1: UNPACK
- Unpack boxes, but keep packages intact to avoid losing small hardware pieces and instructions. Lay the system out on the floor as an overview of where individual items will be installed.
STEP 2a: INSTALL REMOTE TRANSFORMER
- Determine location of transformer, j-box and canopy
- Pull the correct gauge THHN wire from the transformer to the canopy (see voltage drop chart, below). Single feed canopies require two leads; dual feed canopies require four
- Install canopy at j-box

or STEP 2b: INSTALL SURFACE TRANSFORMER
- Determine transformer location
- Mount transformer to 120 volt j-box
STEP 3: INSTALL THE KABLE LITE TURNBUCKLES AND ANCHORS
- Carefully determine proper locations (Review all fixtures to determine the correct separation needed between cables)
- Reinforce with wood blocking behind the wall for runs over twenty feet in length
STEP 4: ADDTIONTAL SUPPORTS/HARDWARE
- Carefully place and install additional supports and hardware, if any
- (Maintain proper cable separation)

STEP 5: INSTALL CABLE
- Fully extend turnbuckles
- Feed each cable from anchor or turnbuckle through any supports or hardware to other turnbuckle
- Adjust cables to be straight and taut; trim excess cable
STEP 6: CANOPY CONNECTION
- Connect the canopy leads to the cables
- Bend and trim off any excess lead wire or cable
- Make sure power connections are very tight
- Turn on the power; use a voltmeter to ensure the proper voltage
STEP 7: ADD ELEMENTS
- Fully extend turnbuckles
- Feed each cable from anchor or turnbuckle through any supports or hardware to other turnbuckle
- Adjust cables to be straight and taut; trim excess cable
STEP 8: RUN SYSTEM FOR 20 MINUTES
- Turn off the system and check for any connections that are hot to the touch. Those that are hot must be retightened.accessories and lamps

Why Choose LED?
Looking for a more energy efficient system? Traditional Kable Lite systems can use up to 300+ watts of electricity when in use. The new high-performance, energy-saving light-emitting diode (LED) systems can save you up to 83% in energy consumption when compared to halogen or incandescent systems. Each LED pendant or Kable Lite head consumes only 5.8 watts of electricity comparred to 50+ watts for the same pendant or Kable Lite head with an incandescent or halogen bulb. Ordering an LED system is easy. All hardware components are identical to the other low-voltage systems with the exception of the transformer. Simply piece together a regular Kable Lite system and choose one of the transformers that end with LED.
PLEASE NOTE BEFORE INSTALLATION BEGINS:
The first step in designing your Kable Lite system is to determine what it is you are trying to light. You’ll need to decide where the heads, pendants, or functional art should be installed to put light where you want it. See Heads, Pendants, and Functional Art for thumbnails of all available fixtures. Refer to the indicated spec sheets for detailed specifications, including lamp type and maximum wattage. Choose your fixtures then add accessories if desired. We offer a broad range of colorful and decorative accessories and functional optical controls.
